Broker's Comments
A One-Off, this Drascombe Driver Cruiser 'Egeria' (Egeria was a nymph attributed a legendary role in the early history of Rome as a divine consort) was built in Scotland by the highly regarded Norman Whyte of Findhorn, to the requirements of one Stephen Schlemmer, himself a highly regarded Drascombe enthusiast. Approximately 55 Drivers were constructed by several builders between 1974 - 78, however this one was built in 1994 to special order, by arguably the best of the wooden Drascombe builders.
She is marine ply lapstrake construction coated inside and out with two coats of woven rovings and West System epoxy and finished in epoxy two pack paint. Despite a few scuff marks externally we consider her to be in exceptional condition for her age plus her cosy double berth cabin interior is immaculate and shows very little sign of wear or usage.
With sweet hull lines, think of a shortened Longboat, inboard diesel and proper pintle hung rudder like the Drascombe Dabber, the Driver is reputed to handle sweetly under motor or sail power. She has a cosy cabin not as spacious of that of the Drifter but one up from the Longboat Cruiser. With her signature Drascombe Yawl split rig (although with her Mizzen stepped fractionally ahead of her rudder post she probably qualifies as a ketch!) she is sure to attract admirers in any harbour or anchorage. Truly a 'one off' to be proud of!
