Broker's Comments
Designed and built by Chris Butler, and sailed single handed by him in both the Azores and Back in 1975 and the 1976 OSTAR, the Achilles 9m proved herself as a thoroughly competent and seaworthy cruising design as well as being a competitive racer. In fact her successor, the 840, won her class (under 30ft) in both those races in 1984, helmed once again by her builder/designer.
Our example here is elderly but sound, and better maintained and presented by her owner than many of her contemporaries. A new owner would no doubt wish to add some modern electronics and a simple solar panel if sailing plans are to include a venture offshore but she is perfectly capable of passage making as she is. She is a simple, easily handled and comfortable cruiser racer that will look after you, even if you're not planning a single handled transat!
